Environmental and Sustainability Policy
Here at the Fossil Tree Hotel we are fully committed to ensure our business is as environmentally sustainable as possible.
Recycling
The Fossil Tree has glass and cardboard recycling bins which are collected bi-weekly by Enveco NW Environmental Services on behalf of Blackpool Council All staff are informed that neither product to go in the general waste bins.
We’ve installed a water filtration tap to allow us to provide filtered water to guests in reusable glass bottles, thus replacing the hundreds of plastic bottles previously used.
Heating and lighting.
The Fossil Tree are constantly refurbishing and rooms and public areas. During COVID lockdown we put in new central heating and hot water storage system which is powered during daylight hours through our 6kwh Solar panel system. Each radiator has thermostatic controls which means we can turn off unoccupied rooms without disrupting other rooms.
All lighting in public areas has led bulbs which are controlled with PIR movement sensors, ensuring lighting is only used when needed and significantly reduces electricity consumption.
All staff are aware when rooms are empty, they are to turn all radiators, lights, TV’s and showers are switched off and any empty sockets are turned off.
The Chef only turn cooking equipment on when needed. We use of local suppliers in the restaurant cutting down on food miles.
Cleaning products and Laundry.
The Fossil Tree uses, where possible environmentally friendly cleaning products. We use
Method for our main cleaning products in our rooms and kitchen. These are all
environmentally friendly. All our hand soap and shower gels are supplied by Duck Island whose products come in 5Lt recycled bottles. We then use room dispensers to avoid the need for single use plastics.
We have signs in bathrooms and our room guide asking all residents to re-use towels where possible to reduce how much laundry we need to do.
Sustainable Travel.
The Fossil Tree has invested in a guest vehicle charge point. We are looking into getting at least 2 more installed as electric car sales increase and demand for charging grows.
We offer a free parking space to every guest room and encourage guests to use public transport, especially the Tram system while in resort.
Bar.
All our straws and cocktail napkins that are made from recycled materials. We only use the glasswasher when the tray is full. All bottles and cans sorted and go to recycling.
Getting about greener.
We encourage our staff and guests to use public transport. Our location means we are right on the Tram and bus network, with stops for both within 50m of the hotel. Plus, Bispham and its many bars and restaurants are just a 10-minute walk along the promenade.
The Fossil Tree are always looking at ways to reduce our waste and on the lookout for more products that can be recycled or made from recycled products.
